October 24, 2013 I know a few people were having troubles with receiving mail, so I hope this has been resolved and that it gets to you. Today is Make a Difference Day folks! There are a lot of local organizations that have volunteering events going on, one of these is the Bartlett House which is the Homeless Shelter in Morgantown. If anyone is interested in helping out message me on FB. Tomorrow at 10 AM Andy from SSA is coming to offer Secular Safe Zone Training. It would be great to have as many people show up to this as possible, check out the FB page event for more details. There will also be a Sunday Discussion tomorrow at 1 pm at the Blue Moose Cafe, for more details on this check the FB event as well. We discussed our next big fundraising project, and decided that it would be a great idea to offer hot drinks and possibly cookies in the same location near the prt station. This would be for Camp Quest, a secular summer camp for kids. (Caleb Davis has close ties to this organization and would love to share more details about it to anyone interested). A lot of children who apply for the camp don’t have the necessary funds to go, and though there is a program in place to help with this issue, there are still a lot of kids who don’t get to attend. This is what the money will be going towards. The November 5th lecture/movie night is still in the making. When we have more details they will be posted. The weekend after Halloween we will be having a Halloween Themed Party, which we will make an event page for sometime in the near future. Another huge project in the making is “Get Religious Bias Out of Government Morgantown” – There is an events page dedicated to this and I highly recommend checking it out for details. Have a good Halloweekend everyone!

FISH had a meeting today; here is what we discussed and what’s going on in the group.
-The Secular Student Alliance annual conference is happening this summer! As we’ve mentioned before, we have two FISH members speaking at this year’s conference: Cecil, our president, and Sean, our founder. The conference is in Columbus, OH on July 12-14 (Friday-Sunday). If you will be around this summer and would like to go, let us know. I went to the conference last year and it’s certainly a great time!
-The philosophy debate, lecture series, and discussion series are still in the works. We’re mostly waiting on people to get back to us, so hopefully we’l have some more info on this soon.
-Some members of FISH are involved with Fairness WV. If you are interested in getting involved as well, there is a phone bank from 5:30-8:30 in Ming Hsieh G20 March 7 and a lobby day in Charleston on Tuesday. Let us know if you re interested and w can pass on more inormation.
-The Library Box is still open! Check out our books to find something you’re interested in reading! I’ll be working on getting the group list updated properly soon. If you have a book currently, don’t forget about it!
That’s all for now. Hope to see everyone at the next meeting, next Thursday, March 7, at 6:30 p.m. in the Blackwater Room of the Mountainlair.
October 1st, 2012
Hi all! It was good to see many of you at our last meeting. Here are a few updates, dates, and links.
Cecil and Sean have been invited to speak at the 2013 Secular Student Alliance Conference in Columbus, OH! Hopefully we are able to take a bigger group than last summer. We’ll be building up funds to send several FISH members.
SSDP (Students for a Sensible Drug Policy) had representatives at the meeting to tak about their work on putting a Good Samaritan Policy into place here at WVU.
We have plans to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity mid-October. If you are interested and did not put your name on the sign up sheet at the meeting, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org so I can add you to the list. Cecil or I will send out more info on this as soon as it becomes available to us.
We will have a guest speaker very soon. He has presented for FISH in the past and it will certainly be a very interesting presentation. We encourage everyoe to come! Again, more info on exact time/date as soon as it becomes available.
Anyone notice the preachers outside of the Lair recently? FISH will be prepared with bingo cards next time! With spaces such as “You’re going to hell.” and “Repent”, we encourage tolerance and discourage hate. Anyone who gets a bingo can redeem a piece of candy!
We hope that everyone gets involved! See you at the next meeting!
